Smoke detectors are arguably the most ideal location to place a hidden camera in a commercial or home setting. One reason being that smoke detectors are required in all homes and businesses, making their presence often disregarded. Also, unlike other common locations for hidden cameras (clock radios, bookshelves, and stuffed teddy bears), a smoke detector camera provides an excellent vantage point due to its high mounting point atop a ceiling. Smoke detectors are also commonly located in more than just one room, if not all rooms, giving you the option of conveniently getting an aerial view of all the high traffic areas in your home without suspicion. There are an array of different scenarios in which a smoke detector camera can be used, the most common include for child safety, loss prevention, home security, and possibly most importantly peace of mind.

Please read this manual carefully and keep it for future reference.
Use the smoke detector camera within the given temperature and electricity limits.
Do not point the camera at the sun. Intense heat could damage the detector, even when not in use.
Do not mount the security camera in areas exposed to radiation, strong magnetic fields, or strong electrical signals.
Do not open or disassemble the smoke detector. There are no field serviceable parts inside.
Do not drop the device or subject it to strong vibrations.

Smoke Detector Camera Installation

For a basic installation, run a 12VDC power supply wire and video cable with a male BNC connector through the ceiling to where you would like the unit to be mounted. Temporarily connect the unit to the 12VDC power supply, but do not cut the DC jack or female BNC plug, as the warranty will be voided. If needed, use the included DC plug with terminal block, and temporarily connect the female BNC jack to the video cable's male BNC plug. While watching the monitor, hold the smoke detector camera against the ceiling where it is to be mounted, then twist the unit until it is certain that this mounting location is correct. Use a pencil to mark the location of the two screw holes in the bracket. If the smoke detector camera angle needs to be adjusted, remove the module and loosen the adjustment screws. Rotate the module to the correct angle, tighten the adjustment screws, and replace the module in the housing.

To adjust the smoke detector camera for bottom view, remove the module and loosen the adjustment screws. Then simply rotate the module to face the bottom-viewing hole. Tighten the adjustment screws and replace the camera module in the housing. Disconnect the 12VDC power supply and video cable and mount the smoke detector camera to the ceiling using the two included mounting screws. Afterwards, reconnect the 12VDC power supply and video cable. Turn the monitor on and make sure the surveillance camera is sending the proper video signal. Finally, do a test of the device and enjoy the comfort of knowing that your assets are discretely being looked over.
